A crucial factor about all the hotels is the number of their employees and how this number changes between the low and high season. It is hypothesized that during the high season, the demand for more working hands is increased. Thus more employees are hired as seasonal personnel, increasing the staff number and turnover at the same time. In our investigation, we grouped the number of employees working for each hotel during the low and high season. The first category includes hotels that employ 1–9 employees, the second 10–29 employees, the third 30–99 employees, and the last group includes hotels that employ more than 100 employees. During the low season, 35 hotels fell into the first category, 22 hotels were in the second category, 16 in the third and 11 in the fourth. Accordingly, during the high season, 29 hotels fell into the first category, 23 in the second, 19 in the third and 13 in the fourth. To test whether these differences are significant we performed chi-square testing for the number of employees during the low season versus the number of employees during the high season. Our results showed no statistical significance (p > 0.05). This result states that there are rare occasions where more employees are hired during the high season, either due to the skills of the existing employees or due to the absence of higher demand or lastly due to the need to avoid additional expenses on salaries. The frequency distributions for the number of employees during the low and high seasons are shown in Figs. 5.8 and 5.9.
